Go Medical Billing serves NM practices from Albuquerque to Las Cruces and across the state. Our team knows your local payers, Turquoise Care (replaced Centennial Care July 1, 2024), and New Mexico specific billing rules.
Medical Billing for New Mexico Physicians
New Mexico has about 5,000 physicians and just went through a complete Medicaid rebrand. Effective July 1, 2024, Centennial Care became Turquoise Care, and the MCO panel changed at the same time. Western Sky Community Care exited the program. Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico and Presbyterian Health Plan continued. Molina Healthcare and UnitedHealthcare entered as new MCOs. The four-MCO Turquoise Care panel is BCBS NM, Molina, PHP, and UnitedHealthcare. The transition required an open enrollment period from April through May 2024 so members could pick a new MCO. Presbyterian Healthcare Services is unique because it operates as an integrated payer-provider through Presbyterian Health Plan, which makes Presbyterian one of the few Medicaid plans in the country with direct ownership of major hospitals and clinics. The commercial market is split between Presbyterian Health Plan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, with Molina also significant. New Mexico expanded Medicaid in 2014. The state has a large Native American population with specific federal Indian Health Service coordination requirements that affect billing workflows.
Go Medical Billing is headquartered in Miramar, Florida, and serves physician practices in all 50 states. Whether you're a solo provider in Farmington or a multi-specialty group in Albuquerque, our team handles your billing with NM specific payer knowledge and AAPC-certified coding accuracy.
New Mexico Billing Challenges
Every state has its own billing complexities. Here are the NM specific challenges our team navigates daily.
The Centennial Care to Turquoise Care transition on July 1, 2024 changed both the program brand and the MCO panel. Western Sky exited, Molina and UnitedHealthcare entered. Practices had to re-credential with the new MCOs and learn new portals.
Presbyterian Health Plan is owned by Presbyterian Healthcare Services, an integrated payer-provider. Practices billing into Presbyterian hospitals plus the Presbyterian Medicaid plan face vertical-integration dynamics.
BCBS New Mexico is operated by Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), the same parent as BCBS Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, and Montana. HCSC-specific rules apply across all five HCSC states.
New Mexico has a large Native American population and significant Indian Health Service presence. Coordination with IHS and tribal health facilities is more common than in most states and requires specific billing workflows.
New Mexico's Medicare MAC is Novitas Solutions (Jurisdiction H), shared with AR, CO, LA, MS, OK, and TX. LCDs are written for the seven-state region. Cardiology and pain management policies sometimes differ from neighboring states served by Noridian (Arizona, Utah).
